Port of Bari

The port of BARI is situated on the South East coast of Italy, on the Adriatic sea, in position Lat. 41° 08’ N , Long. 16° 51’ E , with a population of about half million; the port can be considered the natural gateway to the Middle–East.

 The tide excursion gets it maximum value up to 30 cm. abt.; prevailing winds are from SE or NW.

Depth at the bar is 13.75 m; operative berths, into the port limits, have depths, alongside, up to 12.00 m.

A grain silos, with a capacity of up to 25.000 ton. is fully operative on berth n. 15 (length 175 m. and depth 30’).

Berths n. 1 to n. 7 and n. 12/12bis are used by ferry boats.

Berths n. 10, 12 and 13/14 are usually reserved to cruise ships; an old building has been completely refitted and, since April 2003, a new “Cruise Terminal” (berths 13-14) is fully operative.

Berths 16 to 23 are used by coasters and ocean going ships for general cargoes handling (length 1500 m. about, depth up to 38’), equipped with shore cranes (on rails and on wheels).

No facilities for tankers carrying petroleum products are available, but vegetable oils and bulk wines are regularly handled.

Services available

Garbage, shipchandler (fresh provisions/spares), laundry, divers, work-shops, gas-free, car rental, de-ratting and almost all port services to ships.

All berths, up to n. 23, are served by fresh water pipe.

Some Stevedoring Companies are operating with own gears for the handling of goods (mobile cranes, fork-lifts, PGS, etc.).

A new area (Marisabella), inside the port limits, is under constructions; some 1100 m. of new berths, depths up to 40’, will be available.

Connections

Bari Palese airport, named “Karol Wojtyla” (15 Km. abt. far from the port) is connected directly with Rome, Milan, Bologna, Genova, Torino, Trapani, Venezia and Verona. Regular flights are operative with Germany, UK, France, Spain, Albania, Montenegro, Romania and Canada.

Other informations

Main EXPORT cargoes are: containerized products, pasta, “projects cargo”, olive oil, wine, agricultural products, glass ware, pipes, steel coils and plates, etc.

Main IMPORT cargoes are: contaninerized products, grains, fertilizers, steel bars, pipes and plates, vegetable oils, windmills, etc.

Available in the port area container Terminals operated by the main worldwide Companies (M.S.C., Hapag Lloyd, Ever Green, Cosco Ship. Lines).

 Bari is a major port for the Passengers traffic to and from : Greece, Croatia, Montenegro, Albania.

Several Ferry Boats / Ro/Ro. Companies are serving above lines on regular basis, mostly all year around.

No tankers trade is experienced since several years when the local refinery was definitely closed; the berth named “San Cataldo”, once used by tanker, is now occupied by laid up vessels or by ships using the services of “Cantiere Navalmeccanico Ranieri”, a ship repair yard closed to this berth.

No open roads berths are available.

no dwt, nor grt, draft, loa/beam, air draft restrictions.

Bunkers being supplied by tank-trucks, with the assistance of fire guards and according to Harbour Master regulation.

Bari is an open port: pilotage and mooring services are available 24 hours; “Azimuthing propellers” tug service having 3.752 BHP, not compulsory (n. 1 tug available 24 hrs and a second one, upon request, with 6 hrs notice in advance).
